Skin Rejuvenation

Most people would like to keep a young and fresh look forever, but unfortunately due to excessive sun exposure and decreased production of collagen as we age, this is hard to achieve and wrinkles become more prominent along with pigmentation.

How does Skin Rejuvenation treatment work?

Ellipse has the answer with our Skin Rejuvenation treatment, which helps the face look smoother by removing age spots and diffuses redness by improving the skins texture. Uneven pigmentation is also reduced leaving you with the skin you’ve always desired.

The flash lamp in the unique Ellipse IPL system produces light that is carefully filtered in two ways to ensure that only light with the correct characteristics (wavelengths) is allowed to reach the skin.

The light that is allowed through has been chosen because it is the wavelength that two natural body substances respond to. Age spots contain a substance called melanin, and diffuse redness contains haemoglobin. When cells that contain high levels of melanin or haemoglobin are hit with the right type of light, they heat up and are destroyed within a few thousandths of a second.

Can I be treated?

As skin rejuvenation is based on light absorption in melanin and haemoglobin, treatments are most efficient in patients with light skin who are not sun tanned at the time of treatment. The lighter the skin the more pronounced the contrast between the age spots/blood vessels and the skin, making treatment easier. However, Ellipse has pre-programmed settings for different skin colours that deliver the correct energy output for your complexion.

How long does treatment take?

For a full face it takes around 20 minutes. For the desired results you will need between 1-4 treatments.

Does it hurt?

Many patients describe it as a warming sensation on the skin similar to that felt after a day on the beach. The lighter the skin colour the less uncomfortable it is.

Do I need to take special precautions before and after treatment?

You should avoid tanning your skin (sun/solarium/self tan) before and during the treatment period. Otherwise your tanned skin will absorb more light, making treatment less effective.

Generally no post treatment care is necessary, although it is recommended to use a sunscreen with spf50+ for a few weeks following treatment.

What can I expect?

Your skin may look a little “dirty” for a few days after treatment, but following this your skin will be smoother and fresher. You may choose to have 1-2 annual maintenance treatments in order to keep your youthful appearance.
